The show is inspired by the Boomtown podcast and centers on the ruthless world of the West Texas oil industry, following Billy Bob Thornton's character, Tommy Norris, a "landman" who navigates the complex and often dangerous aspects of oil exploration and production. The series premiered in November 2024, with its second season becoming Paramount+'s most-watched original series premiere, garnering over 9.2 million global streaming views in its first 48 hours.
